Winnipeg, MB – Northbound Vaughan Street from Portage Avenue to Ellice Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic this Sunday, August 25 from 8 a.m. to noon to accommodate overhead glass repairs on the skywalk. Pedestrian access will be maintained, and motorists should allow additional travel time and use alternate routes to reach their destinations.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Henry Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:55 a.m. on August 23, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey commercial building in the 500 block of Henry Avenue. Once on scene crews found heavy smoke coming from the building and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 6:51 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the building and no occupants were found. One firefighter was injured and was assessed by paramedics on scene and then transported to hospital.

Upcoming temporary closures at library and recreation facilities

Winnipeg, MB – Residents are advised that West Kildonan Library, Sergeant Tommy Prince Place and Elmwood Kildonans Pool will experience partial or full temporary closures in the coming weeks in order to accommodate minor renovation or maintenance work at the facilities.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Red River College – Notre Dame Campus Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:53 a.m. on August 22, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire on the roof of a structure on Red River College’s Notre Dame Campus. Upon arrival, crews found charring around a rooftop exhaust pipe on a building housing a boiler room and gymnasium. An offensive strategy was initiated with crews peeling back parts of the roof in order to extinguish the fire. Crews were able to contain the fire to the roof area, declaring it under control at 11:31 a.m.

City and ATU remain at an impasse on negotiations

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg and Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1505 (ATU) remain at an impasse on negotiations. The City has rejected the counterproposal provided by ATU at the end of the day on Friday, August 16, as it still has the two parties approximately $68 million dollars apart. The City has asked ATU to come back with a counterproposal that is reasonably in line with what the City has offered in the previous four contract proposals, and not just another repackaging of their previous proposals.

Temporary closure tomorrow on Edmonton Street between Graham Avenue and Portage Avenue for SMD Drop Zone event

Winnipeg, MB – Edmonton Street will be temporarily closed between Graham Avenue and Portage Avenue from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 for the SMD Drop Zone event, which is a fundraiser in support of the Society for Manitobans with Disabilities.

Pedestrian access will be maintained in the area. Motorists should use alternate routes and allow additional travel time to get to their destinations.
