Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Public Library has selected Carolyn Gray as the new Writer-in-Residence for 2019-2020. Gray will be available for consultations starting October 1, 2019.
Gray is a Canadian playwright, an author of creative non-fiction, and a screenwriter. Her plays have been produced by Theatre Projects Manitoba, zone41 Theatre, the Winnipeg International Children’s Festival, and many independent theatre companies. Her play The Elmwood Visitation won multiple awards. Gray was selected for the Sheldon Oberman Mentorship Program and has also been a Creative Writing and Theatre Instructor at Brandon University.
“Of all my artistic pursuits, I love writing the most. I enjoy the entire process: the solitary writing, as well as feedback and workshopping,” said Gray. “The only thing I enjoy as much as writing is helping other writers realize their projects. I especially like building springboards to propel writers on to creation, and finding inroads to improving a piece after the initial endeavour.”
The Writer-in-Residence provides free online and in-person consultation with emerging and established Manitoba writers of all genres from an office located at the Millennium Library, 251 Donald St. Manuscripts for review can be submitted by email or by mail.
Visit Winnipeg Public Library – Writer-in-Residence for complete submission guidelines.
The Writer-in-Residence position is funded by the City of Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Public Library Board, the Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library and Manitoba Sport, Culture and Heritage.
Gray’s term as Writer-in-Residence at the Winnipeg Public Library runs until April 30, 2020.
