Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Red River College – Notre Dame Campus Fire

Released: August 22, 2019 at 1:15 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:53 a.m. on August 22, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire on the roof of a structure on Red River College’s Notre Dame Campus. Upon arrival, crews found charring around a rooftop exhaust pipe on a building housing a boiler room and gymnasium. An offensive strategy was initiated with crews peeling back parts of the roof in order to extinguish the fire. Crews were able to contain the fire to the roof area, declaring it under control at 11:31 a.m.

Occupants of the structure had used handheld extinguishers to knock down part of the fire prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental while regular maintenance was being performed on the boiler system. No damage estimates are available at this time.
