Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Marshall Crescent

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:48 p.m. on October 29, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, single-level house in the 0-100 block of Marshall Crescent.

When crews arrived, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. Crews employed a defensive attack using a ladder truck until they could safely fight the fire from inside the house. The fire was declared under control at 11:03 p.m. The house sustained extensive damage.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a house fire on Ashford Drive

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:57 a.m. on October 29, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a call from a monitored alarm system at a single-family home in the 0-100 block of Ashford Drive.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the home. Crews forced entry and launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 11:16 a.m. The home sustained significant damage.

Crews conducted a search of the house and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on St. Mary Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:22 p.m. on October 27, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an automatic alarm at a 17-storey high-rise at 555 St. Mary Avenue. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with a high-rise structure.

Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke on the ninth floor and investigated the cause. A small fire was found already put out and crews worked to extinguish hot spots.

Winnipeg to host leaders from Francophone and Francophile communities

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg will welcome leaders from French-speaking communities throughout the Americas, as it plays host to the annual rendez-vous of the Francophone and Francophile Cities Network (FFCN) September 17 & 18, 2020. This year’s theme is Toward a booming Francophonie, and attendees will discuss a variety of issues including economic development, and destination marketing and tourism, among others.

City seeks public input on proposed new transit network design and proposed new routes

Winnipeg, MB – Residents are invited to weigh in on major changes to the transit network in Phase Two of public engagement on the Winnipeg Transit Master Plan.

Winnipeg’s transit needs to change to move the most people where they want to go, quickly and reliably. To make transit more efficient, frequent, and reliable, we are proposing a new transit network and proposed new routes, based on what we heard in the first phase of public engagement and what we learned from analyzing how Winnipeggers travel around the city.

Sargent Avenue between Empress Street and Strathcona Street to temporarily close this weekend

Winnipeg, MB – Eastbound and westbound Sargent Avenue between Empress Street and Strathcona Street will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at 6 p.m. Friday, October 25, until 11 p.m. on Sunday, October 27 for road construction and maintenance.

Pedestrian access will be maintained. Motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes during this time.

Over 1,700 tonnes of storm-related wood debris collected

Winnipeg, MB – Cleanup operations continue following the October storm event. Crews continue to clear and remove downed trees and fallen branches, aided by contractors and crews from other Canadian municipalities.

As of October 22, 2019, the City collected an estimated 1,774 tonnes of storm-related wood debris at its 4R Winnipeg Depots, Brady Road Resource Management Facility, and the Summit Road Landfill.
