Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Participating in Emergency Response Exercise

Winnipeg, MB – On Thursday, October 24, members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service will participate in a live training exercise organized by the Canadian Pacific (CP) Railway at the CP Winnipeg Yard between McPhillips Street and Arlington Street. As such, residents may notice a congregation of emergency vehicles in the general area.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to arcing power lines near Devon Avenue and Roch Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:51 p.m. on October 22, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of an arcing power line in the 200 block of Oakland Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered significant electrical activity coming from a downed power line near Devon Avenue and Roch Street.

The WFPS is working collaboratively with Manitoba Hydro to resolve the downed power line.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a house fire on Sprague Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:21 p.m. on October 22, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire at a one-storey home in the 500 block of Sprague Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the home and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 7:06 p.m.

Arlington Bridge to temporarily close for inspection and maintenance beginning October 23

Winnipeg, MB – The northbound and southbound directions of travel on the Arlington Bridge between Dufferin Avenue and Logan Avenue will be temporarily closed from 6 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23 until 6 a.m. on Monday, November 4 for a structure inspection and maintenance repairs.

Pedestrian access will be maintained on the east sidewalk.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time, and use alternate routes such as the McPhillips Street Underpass or Slaw Rebchuk Bridge to reach their destinations.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a fire on Charles Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:42 p.m. on October 20, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant one-storey commercial / industrial building in the 0-100 block of Charles Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 11:45 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Update #8: City of Winnipeg response to snowfall

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City of Winnipeg launched winnipeg.ca/stormresponse, a new online resource for residents seeking information about the City’s cleanup operations following the recent storm.

The new online resource features an interactive map displaying progress on the City’s cleanup operations displayed by work area, including fields such as storm brush pickup, hazardous tree cleanup, non-hazardous tree maintenance, and overall cleanup, and will be updated on a regular basis.

City of Winnipeg Launches Multi-Year Balanced Budget Process

Winnipeg, MB – Today, at a special meeting of the Executive Policy Committee, Mayor Brian Bowman and Councillor Scott Gillingham, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance, will launch the first ever 4 year balanced budget process which builds on improvements from previous budgets and incorporates the first multi-year approach that more actively involves input from all members of Council through the Standing Policy Committees.

Road closures planned on busy routes throughout the weekend

Winnipeg, MB – There are several temporary road closures scheduled around Winnipeg for this coming weekend, October 18-20. Motorists are advised to take note and use alternate routes during this time.

Eastbound Stradbrook Avenue from Donald Street and Harkness Avenue will be closed for crane work:

  • Friday, October 18 at 7 p.m. until Saturday, October 19 at 5 a.m.

Southbound Disraeli Freeway from Logan Avenue to Main Street will be closed for paving of roadway:

Downtown streets closed to traffic for overnight film production next week

Winnipeg, MB – Three stretches of downtown streets will be closed to traffic at separate times next week to accommodate an overnight film production, scheduled over the course of Monday, October 21 to Friday, October 25.
