Mayor Bowman to Meet with Western Economic Solutions Taskforce

Winnipeg, MB – Mayor Bowman will be traveling to Leduc, Alberta to take part in a meeting of the Western Economic Solutions Taskforce (WEST) on Monday. The Taskforce was struck in November of last year as a response to the economic downturn facing western communities.

“During a time when feelings of western alienation have resurfaced, it is important that municipal leaders are working together to ensure western voices are heard while keeping our nation unified,” said Mayor Bowman.

Nomination period for the 2020 School Trustee By‑Election begins this weekend

Winnipeg, MB – The 2020 School Trustee By-Election for Winnipeg School Division Wards 3 and 4 takes place on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

The Senior Election Official for the Winnipeg School Division will begin accepting nomination papers at noon on Sunday, February 9, 2020 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2020.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Toronto Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:56 a.m. on February 5, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an automatic alarm at a three-storey apartment block in the 700 block of Toronto Street. When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy smoke coming from one of the suites. Crews immediately launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 6:31 a.m.

City releases year-end financial update for 2019

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg’s Financial Status Report to December 31, 2019 indicates a deficit in the tax-supported operating budget (General Revenue Fund) of $1.1 million. The City’s year-end financial update will be presented at the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance (SPC-Finance) on February 7, 2020.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Grassie Blvd

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single-family home in the 500 block of Grassie Blvd.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy flames and smoke coming from the home. Crews initiated a search of the home and located one individual who was declared deceased on scene.

As a result of deteriorating conditions, crews launched a defensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 8:36 p.m.

On-ramp from eastbound Concordia Avenue to southbound Lagimodiere Boulevard to be temporarily closed

Winnipeg, MB – The on-ramp from eastbound Concordia Avenue to southbound Lagimodiere Boulevard will be closed to traffic starting Sunday, February 2 at 9 a.m. until noon for Manitoba Hydro work.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time to get to their destinations, and to use alternate routes during this time.

Winnipeggers urged to ensure they are on the Voters List

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is encouraging residents to add, update or confirm their personal information on the Voters List in advance of the upcoming 2020 School Trustee By-Election for Winnipeg School Division Wards 3 and 4.

Winnipeggers who are eligible participate in the by-election – which takes place on Saturday, March 21, 2020 – can check their information by using the online voter registration tool at winnipeg.ca/byelection2020.
