Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to apartment fire on Chesterfield Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:51 p.m. on January 24, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an automatic alarm at a 14-storey high-rise in the first block of Chesterfield Avenue. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with a high-rise structure.

Residential Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB – The Residential Parking Ban has been lifted; the City of Winnipeg thanks all Winnipeggers for their patience and cooperation.

Residents are reminded that the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect daily from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. until March 1.

If some streets have been missed or only partially cleared, crews will return in the coming days to address outstanding snow clearing requirements. In the meantime, residents can park on their street since the residential parking ban only applied during the scheduled 12-hour period.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Bowman Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:41 p.m. on January 21, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a house fire in a one-and-a-half storey, single-family home in the 500 block of Bowman Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered flames and smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive interior attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:03 p.m.

Residential Parking Ban in effect starting Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – Plowing of residential streets will begin Tuesday evening to improve the overall condition of residential streets. As a result, a Residential Parking Ban has been declared and will be in effect starting Tuesday, January 21 at 7 p.m.

Residents are urged to confirm their snow zone letter to determine when their residential street is scheduled for clearing.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to three overnight fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:01 a.m. on January 20, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey home in the 100 block of Rupertsland Boulevard.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 2:49 a.m. Crews conducted a search of the home and no occupants were located. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Extended Snow Route Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB – The Extended Snow Route Parking Ban that was put into effect at 12 a.m., on Sunday, January 19, has now been lifted. The Extended Snow Route Parking Ban is an extension of the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban, which is currently in effect daily from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. until March 1, 2020. We thank all residents for their cooperation.

Extended Snow Route Parking Ban in effect starting tonight at midnight

Winnipeg, MB – In response to recent accumulations of snow, a plowing operation will begin tonight at midnight on main routes, bus routes, and collector streets to improve roadway conditions. To facilitate snow clearing, an Extended Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting tonight at midnight.

The Extended Snow Route Parking Ban extends the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban by two hours, prohibiting parking on snow routes between midnight and 7 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to garage fire on Hatcher Road

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a detached garage in the first block of Hatcher Road. Once on scene crews encountered smoke and flames coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. The fire was very quickly extinguished.

Crews prepared to deal with forecasted snowfall

Winnipeg, MB – City crews are ready-to-serve and prepared to deal with the forecasted snow.

Crews are monitoring road conditions and stand ready to plow roadways as required. Accumulations of snow will be monitored and further decisions will be made as the weather system passes through the city. Ice control activities, including sanding, are undertaken city-wide to improve traction on roadways as conditions warrant.

A snow route parking ban is currently in effect.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to garage fire on Weatherdon Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:12 p.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a detached garage in the 1000 block of Weatherdon Avenue. Once on scene crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 8:29 p.m.

One nearby residence was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available.
