Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Charles Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:51 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a warehouse in the 0-100 block of Charles Street when the Winnipeg Police Service’s Air 1 spotted the fire and reported it to WFPS.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. Due to deteriorating conditions, crews were unable to enter the building. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Portage Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:32 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey building in the 800 block of Portage Avenue. The building has both commercial and residential occupants.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 4:51 p.m.

City updates processes to accommodate electronic meetings of Council and Committees of Council

Winnipeg, MB – Following adoption of a motion at the Special Meeting of City Council on April 3, Council will temporarily hold electronic meetings of Council and Committees of Council through April and May. The first electronic meeting will be the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development, Heritage and Downtown Development on Monday, April 20.

Elected officials and required members of the Public Service will have the option of participating in meetings by attending in person, or by connecting via Zoom video conferencing.

Update on the City's COVID-19 enforcement measures

Winnipeg, MB – The City's Community Service Ambassadors (CSAs) and By-Law Enforcement Officers conducted 234 patrols in City of Winnipeg parks, open spaces, and athletic fields throughout the city since Saturday, April 11. The CSAs and By-Law Enforcement Officers are providing information to residents gathering in large groups and those using closed City amenities, and reminding residents of the health and safety recommendations that are currently in effect due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is celebrating the important work of our Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) 911 call takers and dispatchers during National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 12-18, 2020.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is an opportunity to recognize all emergency telecommunications personnel for their front line service to our community. Throughout the current pandemic their contributions have been critical in keeping residents and first responders safe.
