Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Portage Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:32 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey building in the 800 block of Portage Avenue. The building has both commercial and residential occupants.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 4:51 p.m.

Occupants of the neighbouring suites were temporarily evacuated. Residents will be able to return to their homes once the crews complete their work. No injuries were reported. The majority of damage was contained to the suite where the fire originated.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
