Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Simcoe Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:54 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, two-storey house in the 300 block of Simcoe Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heave smoke and flames coming from the structure.

City of Winnipeg issues new order within City-owned parks and launches Community Service Ambassadors program

Winnipeg, MB – Today, the City of Winnipeg launched the new Community Service Ambassador (CSA) program, which will see City employees deployed in City-owned public spaces to provide information to residents on COVID-19 and the measures being recommended by Manitoba Health, beginning Saturday, April 11, 2020.

“This is an opportunity to speak with residents who might not be getting the message regarding usage of our public spaces and the recommendations on physical distancing,” said Mayor Bowman.

Redwood Avenue from Charles Street to Aikins Street temporarily closed April 13 & 14

Winnipeg, MB – Redwood Avenue, from Charles Street to Aikins Street, will be temporarily closed to traffic from 9 a.m. on Monday, April 13 until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, for landscaping and tree maintenance work. Lanes will be reopened to eastbound and westbound traffic during peak rush hour periods.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during this time.

Transit Spring Schedule, new routes in Southwest Winnipeg in effect Sunday, April 12

Winnipeg, MB – On Sunday, April 12, 2020, Winnipeg Transit's Spring Schedule will be in effect, including a new transit network in southwest Winnipeg connected to the new BLUE rapid transit line.

BLUE will travel from Downtown to the University of Manitoba and St. Norbert, using the 11-kilometre Southwest Transitway. Passengers can connect to BLUE from community feeder routes that also connect to Pembina Highway.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Redwood Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:40 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, multi-family home in the 500 block of Redwood Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the house and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 3:59 p.m.

One occupant self-evacuated. Crews completed a search of the home and no other occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

City of Winnipeg: Flood Bulletin #2

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has informed 41 property owners that their properties require dikes to protect their properties form river flooding, while another 16 properties remain at risk of river flooding and may require dikes.

As of 1:18 p.m. on April 6, 2020, the river level at the James Avenue gauge was 14.69 ft. River levels are available online at City of Winnipeg – River Levels and updated in real time every 10 minutes.

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:50 a.m. on Monday, April 6, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of fire in a 4-storey apartment block in the first block of Sargent Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the building. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for a high number of occupants in the building.

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:25 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a report of fire in a 10-storey apartment block in the first block of Carlton Street. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for a high number of occupants in the building.
