Public advised of potential COVID-19 exposures on Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living has indicated of potential COVID-19 exposures on Winnipeg Transit on Friday, October 16, Saturday October 17, and Sunday October 18 on route 55.

On each of the days listed, a passenger travelled twice between Queen Elizabeth Way and Main Street, and Beliveau Road and St. Anne’s Road:

Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living has indicated of a potential COVID-19 exposure on Winnipeg Transit on Wednesday, October 21.

A passenger rode route 11 between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., boarding at a stop at Bell MTS Place and exiting at City Hall.

Whenever Winnipeg Transit is made aware of a potential COVID-19 exposure, scheduling information is cross-referenced, and any operators identified to have been driving potentially affected buses are notified so appropriate follow-up measures can be taken.

A passenger rode route 71 at 4 p.m., boarding at a stop on Sinclair Street and exiting at the corner of Arlington Street and Aberdeen Avenue.

Whenever Winnipeg Transit is made aware of a potential COVID-19 exposure, scheduling information is cross-referenced, and any operators identified to have been driving potentially affected buses are notified so appropriate follow-up measures can be taken.

Leila Avenue temporarily closed this weekend

Winnipeg, MB – Eastbound Leila Avenue through the intersection at McPhillips Street will be temporarily closed from 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 24 until 9 a.m. on Monday, October 26 for a water main repair.

Motorists must use alternate routes while this closure is in place.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Ashton Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:38 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one-storey home in the 0-100 block of Ashton Avenue.

When crews arrived, they encountered a well-involved fire with flames and smoke coming from the home. Crews launched an offensive attack and declared the fire under control at 5:27 a.m.

All occupants of the home self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. Crews transported three patients to hospital in stable condition.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service rescues patient in Lagimodière-Gaboury Heritage Park using drone

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a person in medical distress in a remote part of Lagimodière-Gaboury Heritage Park.

The patient was not able to guide crews to their location through the 911 communications operator. When crews arrived on scene, they searched the area on foot. Crews launched the WFPS drone and used its infrared camera to quickly locate the patient, who was found in a remote wooded area. An ATV was used to transport the patient to an ambulance.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Isabel Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:32 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey apartment building in the 200 block of Isabel Street.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered flames and smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive fire attack, but deteriorating conditions required crews to transition to a defensive attack using an aerial ladder. The fire was declared under control at 4:04 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service assists with evacuation on Garry Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 7:41 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) began the process of evacuating all occupants from a 21-storey residential building in the 0-100 block of Garry Street.

As a result of recent water damage in the building, the primary and secondary power in the building was inoperable and could not be quickly restored, causing a loss of power, heat, and the fire alarm and sprinkler system. These system failures led crews to deem the building temporarily unsafe for occupancy and it was evacuated.

Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living has indicated of potential COVID-19 exposures on Winnipeg Transit on Monday, October 12 and Tuesday, October 13.

On both days, a passenger rode route 17 between 8:14 a.m. and 8:33 a.m., boarding at Northbound McGregor Street at Enniskillen Avenue and exiting at Westbound Jefferson Avenue at Cannes Crescent.
