Winnipeg, MB – At 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a person in medical distress in a remote part of Lagimodière-Gaboury Heritage Park.
The patient was not able to guide crews to their location through the 911 communications operator. When crews arrived on scene, they searched the area on foot. Crews launched the WFPS drone and used its infrared camera to quickly locate the patient, who was found in a remote wooded area. An ATV was used to transport the patient to an ambulance.
WFPS crews assessed the patient on scene and transported the patient to hospital in stable condition. No further information about the patient is available out of respect for the patient’s privacy and in accordance with the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA).
Residents are reminded of the following safety tips when spending time outdoors:
- Know your location and keep an eye out for landmarks you can use if you need to call for help;
- Take a cell phone with you if possible and walk in pairs;
- If you go out alone, tell someone you trust where you’re going and how long you expect to be gone;
- If you need to call 911, remain calm and try to answer all questions clearly;
- Know the phone number you’re calling from so you can provide it to the 911 communications operator. If you get disconnected, they will try to call you back using the number you provide.
