Public advised of potential COVID-19 exposures on Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living has indicated of potential COVID-19 exposures on Winnipeg Transit on Monday, October 5.

A passenger rode the bus at approximately 8 a.m., boarding route 75 at Lagimodière Boulevard and St. Anne’s Road and exiting it at Kildonan Place Mall.

In the evening, at approximately 6:45 p.m. a passenger boarded route 45 at Panet Road and Reenders Avenue and rode it to Portage Avenue, where they transferred to route 55 before exiting at Worthington Avenue and St. Anne’s Road.

Upcoming temporary closures: Stafford Street and Garry Street

Winnipeg, MB – Two busy streets will temporarily close to accommodate construction work.

Stafford Street

Stafford Street from Grant Avenue to Taylor Avenue will be temporarily closed from 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 18 until 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 24 for sewer work.

Garry Street

Southbound Garry Street from Ellice Avenue to Portage Avenue will be temporarily closed from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 18 for crane work.

Motorists must use alternate routes while these road closures are in place.

City of Winnipeg suspending various in-home inspections until further notice

Winnipeg, MB – Due to the rising number of positive COVID-19 cases in the community, the City of Winnipeg is suspending in-home, non-emergency inspections, effective Monday, October 19, 2020 until further notice.

Those who have scheduled inspections or appointments will be contacted in the coming days, and presented with alternative means to conduct their inspection, if possible. For individuals who prefer an in-person inspection, appointments will be rescheduled to a later date.

On both days, a passenger rode route 55 between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., boarding at St. Mary Avenue and Garry Street, and exiting Lyndale Drive and St. Mary’s Road.

Negotiated agreement with WAPSO recommended for approval

Winnipeg, MB – The Executive Policy Committee (EPC) will consider the ratification of a negotiated agreement between the City of Winnipeg and the Winnipeg Association of Public Service Officers (WAPSO) at its meeting on October 20, 2020.

The Memorandum of Agreement reached between the City and WAPSO is a 48-month term from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2023, and includes general wage adjustments of 0.5 percent in July 2021, 0.5 percent in January 2022, 1.0 percent in August 2022, 0.75 percent in January 2023, and 1.25 percent in August 2023.

Upcoming temporary closures: Weston Street, Sargent Avenue, Marion Street, and Stafford Street

Winnipeg, MB – Four busy streets will close in the coming days to accommodate construction work.

Weston Street

Weston Street will be closed today from Logan Avenue to Alexander Avenue until 3 p.m. for paving of the roadway.

Sargent Avenue

Sargent Avenue from Alverstone Street to Home Street will be closed from 6 p.m. today until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14 for paving operations. Traffic along Arlington Street will be maintained at the Sargent Avenue intersection; however, motorists will be prohibited from turning onto Sargent Avenue.

Public advised of potential COVID-19 exposures on Winnipeg Transit

Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living has indicated of potential COVID-19 exposures on Winnipeg Transit on Friday, October 9.

A passenger was on route 66 from Portage Avenue at St. Charles Street from approximately 6:20 a.m. to 6:47 a.m., and then rode route 78 from Cambridge Street at Mathers Avenue to Waverley Street at McGillivray Boulevard at approximately 6:54 a.m. to 7 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Burland Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:55 p.m. on October 9, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey condominium complex in the first block of Burland Avenue.

When WFPS arrived on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from a storage shed on a third-floor balcony with flames extending into the attic. The fire was declared under control at 10:47 p.m.
