Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C22- 115295

On May 30, 2022, at approximately 12:45 a.m., a police unit attempted a traffic stop in the Deer Lodge neighbourhood. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and fled the area.

Officers subsequently located the vehicle in the 400 block of Truro Street, where it had collided with a tree. The vehicle's three occupants were transported to hospital (the adult male driver and a teenage passenger were transported in unstable condition). The adult female passenger was transported to hospital in critical condition, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Stabbings – Investigation: C22-114161

On May 28, at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Hargrave Street and Portage Avenue for two persons stabbed in a public park.

A 39-year-old male of Winnipeg and a 39-year-old female, also of Winnipeg, sustained upper-body injuries and were transported to hospital in unstable condition. They were both later upgraded to stable condition.

The Major Crimes Unit is investigating.

Homicide – Investigation: C22-114259

On May 28, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of an assault in the 100 block of Marlow Court.

North District officers in the area attended and located an unconscious female victim suffering from upper-body injuries. Officers administered emergency first aid to the victim before ambulance arrived.

The victim, a 31-year-old female of Winnipeg, was transported to hospital in critical condition; however, she succumbed to her injuries.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Investigation: C22-112796

On May 27, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., emergency services personnel responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial vehicle at Dugald Road and Bournais Drive.

The 47-year-old male driver of the passenger vehicle had to be extracted by WFPS responders. He was conveyed to a hospital in critical condition; however, he succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation continues by members of the Traffic Division. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 204-986-7085.

Robbery – Arrests: C22-108380

On May 22, 2022, at approx. 12:23 a.m., a General Patrol unit was in the area of Sargent Avenue and Spence Street when they were flagged down by a citizen who reported that a male was being “jumped” in front of a nearby food establishment.

Officers attended the area and observed a male suspect assaulting a 39-year-old male victim. The suspect was also seen to be in possession of a partially-concealed knife and subsequently fled on foot.

Shooting – Investigation: C22-111781

On May 26, 2022, at 5:32 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 500 block of St. Mary’s Road for a report of a male that had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers located a male (in his 20s) that had been injured. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to unstable condition.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Attempted Abduction – Investigation: C22-111272

On May 25, 2022, at 3:40 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 200 block of Austin Street North for a report of an attempted abduction. A caller had reported seeing an adult male attempt to grab a child that had been in the area. The child was physically unharmed, and the suspect fled in a silver-coloured sport utility vehicle (SUV).

Firearms – Arrests: C22:111241

In May 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit began a firearms investigation that was believed to involve a residence in the Elmwood neighbourhood.

On May 25, 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of William Newton Avenue.

As a result of this investigation, two adults were taken into custody. Two firearms and ammunition were recovered as well as the following:

Firearms & Drugs – Arrests: C22-109936

In May 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit began a drug trafficking investigation that was believed to involve individuals at a residence in the Springfield South neighbourhood.

On May 24, 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and North District Community Support officers, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1400 block of Molson Street.

Homicide – Arrest: C21-104380

Update:

On May 10, 2021, 27-year-old Jasmine NORMAND was found deceased in her apartment in the 600 block of Maryland Street. Her death was determined to be a homicide, and investigators reached out to the public for assistance regarding NORMAND’s whereabouts and contacts she had leading up to her death.

Over the past year, the Homicide Unit continued investigating and subsequently identified a suspect in NORMAND’s murder.
