Forcible Confinement – Arrest: C22-108497

On May 22, 2022, at 4:09 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the Maples area for a report of a domestic dispute. Soon after, officers encountered a male with a knife, and he subsequently barricaded himself in a bedroom with several children.

A standoff ensued for approximately four hours. With the assistance of the Crisis Negotiation Unit and other units, including General Patrol and the Tactical Support Team, the male was taken into custody, and the incident was safely resolved.

Stabbings – Investigations

During the Victoria Day long weekend, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to several serious stabbing incidents:

- On May 20, 2022, at 11:16 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a hospital after a male in his 30s was dropped off with a severe stab wound. He was admitted in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition. It is believed he had been stabbed near a bar in the 800 block of Main Street, and the Major Crimes Unit is investigating. Incident C22-107494.

Homicide – Arrests: C22-75057

Update:

On May 20, 2021, members of the Homicide Unit charged two suspects in the murder of 28-year-old Brandon David Thomas RICHARD of Winnipeg, who was killed on April 12, 2022.

Mario NIPPI (23), and Fransisco FLETT (23), of Winnipeg, have been charged with First Degree Murder and detained in custody.

Update:

Regarding the suspicious death of a female in the 400 block of Kennedy Street on May 19, 2022, the victim has now been identified as Doris Lydia TROUT, 25, of Winnipeg.

TROUT’s death is determined to be a homicide, and the Homicide Unit continues to investigate.

Investigators seek the public’s assistance in identifying the two females seen in the images below. They are considered people of interest; any information about their travels before and after the incident is helpful.

Public Assistance – Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision: C22-104920

As previously released:

On May 17, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service and emergency personnel responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Henry Avenue, south of Higgins Avenue.

An adult female (who is yet to be identified) was lying in the roadway and seriously injured. She was subsequently transported to hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Animal Cruelty – Public Assistance Request: C220106921

On May 20, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Central General Patrol officers observed what appeared to be an insecure, vacant residence in the 1400 block of Ross Avenue West.

Officers entered the residence to ensure no persons were inside and located a freezer containing numerous garbage bags.

Homicide Investigation – Public Assistance: C22-92673

The Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit is seeking the public’s assistance regarding the murder of Scott Matthew CATCHEWAY, 39, of Winnipeg.

On May 4, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m., police responded to a disturbance and serious assault in the 400 block of Young Street. Officers subsequently located the deceased victim, CATCHEWAY, outside a residence.

Suspicious Death Investigation: C22-105926

On May 19, 2022, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of an injured female located at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Kennedy Street.

Central Patrol officers attended and located a deceased female victim within a common area of the apartment.

Homicide – Arrest: C22-94660

On May 17, 2022, Winnipeg Police Major Crimes detectives made an arrest in the murder of Richard Contois. Contois was fatally assaulted on May 6, 2022, near the Slaw Rebchuk Bridge.

A 17-year-old male has been charged with:
- Second Degree Murder
- Fail to Comply with Sentence x 2
- Possess Weapon

Homicide – Arrest: C22-103187

Since the morning of May 16, 2022, detectives from the Winnipeg Police Homicide Unit have been investigating partial human remains discovered near an apartment building in the 200 block of Edison Avenue. The victim has now been identified as Rebecca CONTOIS, 24.

On May 18, investigators arrested a suspect. Jeremy Anthony Micheal SKIBICKI, 35, has been charged with First Degree Murder and detained in custody.
