In May 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit began a firearms investigation that was believed to involve a residence in the Elmwood neighbourhood.

On May 25, 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of William Newton Avenue.

As a result of this investigation, two adults were taken into custody. Two firearms and ammunition were recovered as well as the following:

- a pick-up truck
- loaded Marlin sawed-off shotgun (semi-automatic)
- compatible ammunition
- 12 gauge Chiappa shotgun
- conductive energy weapon

A 27-year-old male of Winnipeg faces charges related to the unauthorized possession of a (loaded) firearm, restricted weapon and possessing a firearm in a vehicle.

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.

A 31-year-old female of Winnipeg faces the charge of possession of a firearm contrary to a Prohibition Order.

She was released on an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.
