Robbery – Investigation: C22-152603

On July 10, 2022, at 2:50 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of an attempted robbery in the area of Mountain Avenue and Salter Street.

Two victims (a male in his 30s & a female in her 20s) reported they had been getting gas when they were confronted by a male armed with a gun. The male demanded property, but a struggle ensued, and he was disarmed. The victims were able to flee in their vehicle, and officers later recovered the firearm – a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle. Neither victim was physically injured.

Carjacking – Investigation: C22-152182

On July 9, 2022, at 5:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Grant Avenue and Wilton Avenue after several callers reported seeing a female jump from a moving vehicle. It was also reported that that female had been the victim of a carjacking.

Upon arrival, officers located an injured female victim (in her 20s). She was subsequently transported to a hospital in stable condition. It is believed that the female had been parked in the 1200 block of Grant Avenue when confronted by a male suspect who entered the vehicle and assaulted her.

Stabbing – Investigation: C22-151734

On July 9, 2022, at 12:39 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Wilkes Avenue and Community Row for a report of a stabbing that had just occurred.

Soon after, a WPS unit arrived in the area but could not immediately locate anyone. They travelled south on Community Row, a gravel road, for approximately two kilometers until they were flagged down by several teenagers who advised that their friend had been stabbed and that they would have to locate him some distance away on foot in a heavily-bushed and muddy area.

Assault with a Weapon – Arrest: C22-153301

On July 10, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Central District officers responded near the Disraeli/Henry intersection for an elderly male who was the victim of an unprovoked assault.

Officers located the victim in his seventies. He reported walking in the area (using his walker) when an unknown male approached him from behind and struck his head with a wooden board. He fell to the ground, and the suspect fled on foot. Paramedics treated and released the victim at the scene.

Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C22-152150

On July 9, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a serious assault in the 300 block of Princess Street.

The victim (in his sixties) and the accused were previously known to each other. During what was believed to be an unprovoked incident in an apartment suite, the victim was physically assaulted. Police located the victim with a serious injury to his face. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and upgraded to stable condition but sustained life-altering injuries.

Stabbing – Investigation: C22-151677

On July 8, 2022, at approximately 11:00 p.m., members of the Guns & Gangs Unit were patrolling the Spence neighbourhood when they observed a male who had been stabbed.

Officers provided emergency medical care to the victim in his twenties. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

The Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation, no arrests have been made.

Community Notification

The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit (MIHRSOU) is a joint forces unit of the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP. MIHRSOU today provides information regarding Curtis Leroy GEORGE, 30 years of age, a convicted sex offender considered high risk to re-offend in a sexual/violent manner against all females, both adults and youths.

Homicide – Arrest: C22- 79438

Update:

The Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit continued to investigate the murder of Ira DISBROWE on April 18, 2022.

On July 6, 2022, Homicide investigators attended the Women’s Correctional Centre in Headingley and arrested 43-year-old Samantha Lee BRUYERE of Winnipeg for the murder of DISBROWE (she was already in custody on unrelated charges).

BRUYERE was charged with Second Degree Murder and remains in custody.

Firearm/Drugs – Arrest: C22-150310

On July 7, 2022, at approximately 12:00 p.m., members of the North District Community Support Unit were actively searching for an individual with an outstanding warrant and firearms-related conditions. Police observed this male while patrolling in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.

As police approached the male, he made comments about a firearm possibly in his possession.

Police took him into custody, and a search revealed the following items:

Pursuit/Carjacking – Investigation: C22-149606

On July 6, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., members of the East District Community Support Unit were patrolling near Des Meurons/Goulet when they observed a vehicle listed as stolen being driven by a female westbound on Goulet Street.

The driver took off at a high rate of speed towards Downtown. A short pursuit ensued and was aborted due to the suspect’s manner of driving. The suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle on the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and continued speeding away into St. Boniface. The other vehicle was damaged, but the occupants were not injured.
