Shooting - Investigation: C22-157176

On July 15, 2022, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Flora Avenue and Salter Street for the report of a male that had been stabbed.

Officers from the North District located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. Officers provided emergency medical care by applying a tourniquet. The adult male was transported to hospital in unstable condition and has since been upgraded to stable. He remains in hospital.

Stabbing - Investigation: C22-156935

On July 14, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue for the report of a male that had been stabbed.

Officers from the North District, assisted by AIR1 and Tactical Support Unit members, located an adult male suffering from a severe upper-body injury. Officers provided emergency medical care by applying a tourniquet. The adult male was transported to hospital in unstable condition and has since been upgraded to stable. He remains in hospital.

3D-Printed Gun – Arrest: R21-58979

On November 3, 2021, the Winnipeg Police Service Firearms Investigation and Enforcement Unit was notified by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) that goods believed to be used to assemble 3D-printed guns were destined for Winnipeg. This case was initiated when the CBSA intercepted parts arriving in Canada by mail.

Officer Involved Shooting: C22-155706

On July 13, 2022, at approximately 3:00 p.m., The Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 300 block of Gertrude Avenue for the report of a male armed with a gun.

Officers from the North, West, and East Districts, assisted by Tactical Support Unit members, located and made contact with a male armed with a gun in front of a residence. During the incident, a firearm was discharged by one of the officers striking the adult male.

Officers immediately provided emergency medical care. The adult male was transported to hospital in unstable condition.

Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C22-155084

On July 12, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the 1100 block of Grant Avenue for the report of several people who had been stabbed.

Responding officers from the North, West, and Central Districts assisted by AIR1, located two adult males suffering from injuries consistent with having been stabbed. Officers subsequently located an adult female, also suffering from stab wounds at the intersection of Thurso Street and Lorette Avenue.

Romance Scam/ Investment Fraud – Public Advisory

The Winnipeg Police Service has received several reports of romance scams where criminal actors develop relationships and gain victims' trust before coaching them on cryptocurrency investing or trading.

The scammer contacts victims through various methods, usually unsolicited messages on online social media platforms, including dating apps.

Victims are led to believe the scammer has become wealthy by trading cryptocurrencies and is willing to show the victim their "secrets of success." The victims are then fooled into transferring their funds to criminals:

WPS Closed Circuit Television Modernization

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) program has been in place since 2009. The initial implementation consisted of nine (9) public CCTV cameras operating primarily in downtown Winnipeg.

Later this week and in the coming months, the WPS will be modernizing its CCTV program. The public can expect to see a total of twenty-five (25) new public-facing CCTV cameras in downtown Winnipeg. An increased number of cameras and updated technology will enhance police investigations, resulting in improved public safety.

Robbery/Assault with a Weapon – Investigation: C22-151734

On July 11, 2022, at 9:01 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 600 block of Balmoral Street for a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers located two injured individuals and began administering medical care. A female in her 50s was transported to a hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable condition. A male in his 50s was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Carjacking – Investigation: R22-34444

On July 10, 2022, at 10:59 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service met with a caller who had just reported a carjacking that had occurred to them earlier in the evening.

The male victim (in his 30s) stated he had parked in the area of Cumberland Avenue and Carlton Street around 7:45 p.m. when he was approached by a female who asked for a smoke. Soon after, the female produced a knife and he was confronted by a male armed with a gun. The suspects stole some of his personal property and subsequently fled in the vehicle. The victim was not physically injured.
