The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) program has been in place since 2009. The initial implementation consisted of nine (9) public CCTV cameras operating primarily in downtown Winnipeg.

Later this week and in the coming months, the WPS will be modernizing its CCTV program. The public can expect to see a total of twenty-five (25) new public-facing CCTV cameras in downtown Winnipeg. An increased number of cameras and updated technology will enhance police investigations, resulting in improved public safety.

The new CCTV cameras result from a multi-year Downtown Public Safety Strategy adopted by City Council on July 19, 2018, which included the specific recommendation approved by City Council for $150,000 for the modernization and expansion of the WPS Closed-Circuit Television program.
