Homicide – Investigation: C22-186182

On August 17, 2022, at approximately 3:05 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a hotel in the 100 block of Higgins Avenue for a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, officers located a seriously injured adult male in front of the establishment and administered emergency medical care. He was subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced deceased.

Attempt Murder – Arrest: C22-184428

On August 15, 2022, at 1:11 a.m., Central District General Patrol units responded to an apartment building in the 300 block of Broadway for a report of a male who had been stabbed.

Upon arrival, officers located a critically injured male in a suite and administered emergency medical care, including chest seals and medical bandages. A firearm was discovered nearby and was seized. The male was subsequently transported to a hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable condition.

Homicide – Investigation: C22-185714

On August 16, 2022, at approximately 3:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 600 block of Cathedral Avenue for a report of a suspicious death.

Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male inside a residence. His death is believed to be a homicide.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).

Robbery – Arrests: C22-159446

Between July and August 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit, with the assistance of General Patrol and the Tactical Support Team, entered into an investigation regarding five elderly females violently robbed of their purses. With the use of CCTV surveillance, investigators identified two suspects, a male and a female, who were committing these crimes.

Serial Break & Enters – Arrest: E22-18130

Between May and August 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service's Property Crimes Unit entered into an investigation regarding numerous apartment break-ins, including Senior Housing complexes.

Investigators believed the same suspect was committing these crimes by breaking into the complexes, entering the parking garages, smashing vehicle windows, and stealing property. This crime spree involved more than $120,000 of property damage, approximately $12,000 in stolen property, and over 100 people victimized.

Armed and Barricaded – Arrests: C22-182129 & C22-183311

On August 12, 2022, at approximately 11:40 a.m., a Central District General Patrol unit was patrolling the West Broadway area when they observed a known male (believed to be Erik Petersen) parking a stolen truck behind an apartment block in the 300 block of Langside Street.

Officers positioned their cruiser car in front of the stolen truck and exited in an attempt to take him into custody. He subsequently rammed the cruiser car and narrowly missed hitting the officers as he tried to flee in the vehicle.

Assault – Investigation: C22-182881

On August 13, 2022, at approximately 5:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 600 block of Brandon Avenue for the report of a male who had been assaulted.

Officers from the East District attended and located two adult male victims, 57 and 54-years-old, respectively. The 57-year-old male, who suffered a minor injury, did not require medical attention, and the 54-year-old male was uninjured. As of note: Both victims are employed as Winnipeg Transit operators. They were in uniform and off-duty at the time of the incident.

Suspicious Circumstances – Public Assistance: C22-182895

On August 13, 2022, at approximately 5:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the southeast sidewalk of the Osborne Street Bridge for the report of an injured male.

Officers from the East and West Districts attended and located an adult male suffering significant trauma to the upper body. A 28-year-old male from Winnipeg was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he remains.

Strongarm Robbery – Arrest: C22-183636

On August 14, 2022, at approximately midnight, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a robbery by firearm in the 900 block of Portage Avenue.

Officers from the Central District, assisted by the Flight Operations Unit (Air1), attended to the area and located a male youth suspect being held by the victims. Officers safely placed the suspect under arrest, and the firearm, determined to be a Smith & Wesson BB air pistol, was seized.

Weapons – Arrest: C22-181032

On August 11, 2022, at approximately 8:00 a.m., officers from the North District observed a wanted male at the intersection of Andrews Street and Flora Avenue. The adult male suspect was also believed to have a rifle in his possession.

Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect; however, he promptly fled on his bicycle. After a short distance, the strap from the duffle bag he was carrying became entangled in his front bicycle wheel, causing him to crash to the ground when the bicycle abruptly stopped.
