Search Warrant – Arrests: C22-254646

In October 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Property Crime Unit began a stolen property, drug trafficking, and firearms investigation involving several individuals and a residence in the downtown neighbourhood.

On November 1, 2022, with assistance from the Tactical Support Unit and Community Support Units from the Central and East Districts, Property Crime investigators executed a search warrant on a residence in the 400 block of Langside Street. Four adults were located within the residence and safely taken into custody.

Halloween Candy/Arrests – C22-254437

Update:

To date, the Major Crimes Unit received over a dozen reports from parents who found THC “Nerds” candies in their children’s treat bags after trick or treating in the South Tuxedo neighbourhood on Halloween night.

Investigators spoke to the families and determined that children between 6 and 16 had received these THC edibles. Police have recovered four packages, and investigators have made arrangements to speak with the remaining victims and recover any outstanding THC candies.

Attempt Murder – Update: C22-254421

As previously released:

On October 31, 2022, at 9:06 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1200 block of Chamberlain Avenue for a report of an injured male that had been found on the ground.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim who had been stabbed and began to administer emergency medical care, including the use of a chest seal. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Public Advisory – Halloween Candy: C22-254437

The Winnipeg Police Service has received at least half a dozen reports about THC “Nerds” candy discovered in children’s Halloween candy. The marijuana edibles packaged to look like the popular candy were discovered in children’s bags after trick-or-treating in the South Tuxedo neighbourhood. The package indicates 600 mg of THC.

Weapons – Arrest: C22-253643

On October 31, 2022, at 4:19 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a residence in the 800 block of Mountain Avenue for a report of a male armed with a firearm.

It is believed that a male, known to the occupants, had discharged a firearm from within the house. No injuries were reported, but the male would not let the occupants leave and demanded that they stay in the room. The male later fled on foot.

Drug Offences – Arrests: C22-246640

In October 2022, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit began investigating a group of males believed to be selling crack cocaine from a residential suite in the 300 block of Kennedy Street.

On October 23, 2022, the Guns & Gangs Unit, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team, Community Support and the K9 unit, executed a search warrant at the residence. Seven individuals were taken into custody, and a search of the suite resulted in the seizure of a number of items, including the following:

- A sawed-off 30-30 lever-action rifle

Carjacking – Arrest: C22-253623

On October 31, 2022, at 3:11 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a carjacking that had occurred in the first 100 block of Marion Street.

It is believed that at approximately 1:15 a.m., a male victim (in his 20s) had been at a gas station when he was robbed of his SUV by a male suspect armed with bear spray. The victim walked a significant distance to get home, at which time he contacted police.

Stolen Vehicle – Arrests: C22-253562

On October 31, 2022, at approximately 12:05 a.m., a Central District General Patrol unit was in the area of Sargent Avenue and Langside Street when they observed a stolen SUV.

Officers followed the vehicle to McDermot Avenue and McPhillips Street – at which time it began to travel at a high rate of speed. AIR1 subsequently tracked the stolen SUV as police vehicles pulled back.

Assault with a Weapon – Investigation: C22-254421

On October 31, 2022, at 9:06 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 1200 block of Chamberlain Avenue for a report of an injured male that had been found on the ground.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim who had been stabbed and began to administer emergency medical care, including the use of a chest seal. The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

An adult male suspect was located at a nearby residence and was placed under arrest. He remains in police custody at this time.
