Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Salter Street and Ross Avenue West

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires in the early morning of Sunday, October 3, 2021.

Salter Street fire

At 2:54 a.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant, one-and-a-half storey house in the 200 block of Salter Street.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke coming from the structure. They launched a defensive attack, applying water to the building using an aerial ladder and hose streams. The fire was declared under control at 4:21 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At the invitation of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), Mayor Bowman will travel to Vancouver, BC over the weekend to take part in the RCN Canadian Leaders at Sea Program.

“Winnipeg is a city that has a strong history and strong ties to the Canadian Armed Forces,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “The Canadian Leaders at Sea Program is an opportunity to see what life is really like for members of our RCN. The opportunity to spend time with the colleagues of the HMCS Winnipeg, who I’ve regularly met with, is a great honour.”

City extending temporary patio program through winter

Winter operation of temporary patios will be available with additional operating requirements

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is making temporary patio registration available to eligible businesses through the winter with additional operating requirements. Current temporary patio registrations submitted for the summer patio season will extend until October 31, 2021. New winter patio registrations will be accepted as of October 1, 2021 and will be in effect from November 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Magnus Avenue and gas leak on Dominion Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a fire and gas leak this afternoon.

At 1:47 p.m., WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 400 block of Magnus Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy smoke billowing from the structure. They launched a defensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 3:16 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Stella Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 500 block of Stella Avenue.

When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered a well-involved fire with heavy, dark, turbulent smoke coming from the building. Due to safety concerns, they launched a defensive attack while also protecting neighbouring homes, declaring the fire under control at 3:19 p.m. Crews are expected to be on scene for an extended period of time addressing hot spots.

Update on Point Douglas Avenue fire and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Syndicate Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) continued operations at a major structure fire on Point Douglas Avenue throughout the night and responded to a house fire on Syndicate Street overnight.

At 11:21 a.m., on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, the WFPS responded to a well-involved fire in a large vacant warehouse at 2 Point Douglas Avenue. Crews remained on scene through the night fighting the fire defensively. They are expected to remain on scene through most of the day extinguishing hot spots.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to three fires and a gas leak

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to three structure fires and a gas leak on Monday, September 27, 2021.

Osborne Street Fire

At 6:37 p.m., the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey commercial building in the 100 block of Osborne Street.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was very quickly brought under control, aided by the building’s sprinkler system.
