Update on Point Douglas Avenue fire and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Syndicate Street

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) continued operations at a major structure fire on Point Douglas Avenue throughout the night and responded to a house fire on Syndicate Street overnight.

Point Douglas Fire

At 11:21 a.m., on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, the WFPS responded to a well-involved fire in a large vacant warehouse at 2 Point Douglas Avenue. Crews remained on scene through the night fighting the fire defensively. They are expected to remain on scene through most of the day extinguishing hot spots.

One firefighter was injured at the scene through the night. They were assessed by on-scene paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. They remain off-duty at this time. No other injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Higgins Avenue has re-opened to traffic in both directions.

Syndicate Street Fire

At 12:11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey house in the 100 block of Syndicate Street.

When crews arrived on scene they encountered smoke and flames coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 12:29 a.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
