City of Winnipeg recognizes 100th anniversary of Kildonan Park Golf Course

Golf course offering special anniversary green fee rate until Friday, August 6

Winnipeg, MB – Today the City of Winnipeg with Mayor Brian Bowman and Councillor Ross Eadie marked the 100th anniversary at Kildonan Park Golf Course by unveiling a plaque at the course’s first tee commemorating the achievement. The grand opening of Kildonan Park Golf Course was 100 years ago to the day and the course remains Winnipeg’s oldest municipal golf course.

Additional City of Winnipeg services set to resume

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is set to resume a number of services, in accordance with the Provincial Public Health Orders.

Council Building

Beginning July 28, the Council Building at City Hall will reopen to the public under limited circumstances. This includes appearing as delegation and meeting with elected officials by appointment. People wishing to appear remotely as delegations will be accommodated.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to gas leak near Broadway and Donald Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 5:37 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a ruptured gas line near Broadway and Donald Street.

When crews arrived, they encountered a line that had been damaged by a construction crew and was venting natural gas into the atmosphere. Manitoba Hydro crews responded to repair the gas line.

WFPS crews evacuated nearby businesses and residential buildings as a precaution and occupants have since been able to return to those buildings. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Toronto Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:14 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant house in the 500 block of Toronto Street.

When crews arrived on scene, smoke and flames were coming from the house. Firefighters launched an exterior defensive attack until it was safe to enter the building to launch an offensive attack.

WFPS and WPS work together to perform crane rescue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:21 p.m. on July 22, 2021, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a call reporting an individual who had climbed high up on a construction crane near Waterfront Drive and James Avenue. It is estimated the individual was nearly 35 meters from the ground.

Upcoming temporary closures on King Edward Street and Shaftesbury Boulevard

Winnipeg, MB – Two major streets will temporarily close in the coming days.

King Edward Street
Southbound King Edward Street, from Selkirk Avenue to Logan Avenue, will be closed on Saturday, July 24 at 5 a.m., until Sunday, July 25 at 5 p.m., for sewer repairs. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Winnipeg Public Library to expand services on Monday, July 26

Winnipeg, MB – On Monday, July 26, 2021, the Winnipeg Public Library will expand services at all of its branches in accordance with provincial public health guidelines. This includes collection browsing, membership and account assistance, computer use (limited capacity), printing and photocopying, as well as self-checkout and self-pick-up of holds.

Capacity at the branches will be limited, and visitors may be directed to a queue until space is available. Visitors are encouraged to plan for shorter visits.
