Winnipeg, MB – At 5:15 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2021 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey duplex in the 200 block of Dollard Boulevard.
When crews arrived on-scene, they encountered flames and smoke coming from the building. Crews entered the duplex to launch an offensive attack, but were forced to retreat due to heavy fire conditions. Once some of the flames were knocked down, crews transitioned to an interior, offensive attack to complete extinguishment of the fire. The blaze was declared under control at 6:55 a.m.
All occupants of the duplex self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was deployed to assist displaced residents in finding alternate accommodations. Crews located two cats on-scene that had succumbed to fire-related injuries. No other injuries were reported.
The building sustained extensive fire, water, and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
