Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Forbes Road and Wellington Avenue

Released: August 16, 2022 at 9:31 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two fires:

Forbes Road fire

At 9:03 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a single-family home in the 1000 block of Forbes Road.

When crews arrived on scene, they found light smoke coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 10:35 p.m. As the home is located outside the City of Winnipeg water district, WFPS water tankers were deployed to shuttle water as required to the scene.

All occupants of the home safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews, and no injuries were reported.

Preliminary observations suggest the fire was caused by a lightning strike during last night’s storm. Damage estimates are not available at this time.

Wellington Avenue fire

At 2:07 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, WFPS crews responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey apartment building in the 700 block of Wellington Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke in the building. An offensive attack was launched, and the fire was declared under control at 2:50 a.m.

Occupants of the building safely self-evacuated, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
