Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires this morning.
At 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2022, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in an unoccupied two-and-a-half storey multi-family residence in the 800 block of Banning Street.
Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg announced three park projects today that will improve safety and recreational opportunities for families in the ward of Transcona. The projects include light enhancements at Southland Park (175 Royal Mint Dr.), development of a new playground at Kildonan Meadows Park (1120 Devonshire Dr. West) and renewal of the playground at Kern Park (14 Kern Dr.).
Winnipeg, MB – At 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey hotel in the 100 block of Garry Street.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found smoke and flames coming from a window in the building. An offensive attacked was launched and the fire was declared under control at 5:07 p.m. Damage was mostly contained to the suite where the fire originated.
Winnipeg, MB – At 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to the activation of a monitored fire alarm in a two-storey combined-residential and educational facility.
Upon arrival on scene, crews found heavy smoke coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 9:26 a.m.
All occupants of the building safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.
Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg announced three park improvement projects today that will improve recreational opportunities for residents in the ward of Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood. The projects include a rejuvenation of John Steel Park (300 Westwood Dr.), pathway replacement in Swindon Oaks Park (40 Swindon Way), and a renewal of Beachemin Park (67 Elmvale Cres.).
Winnipeg, MB – Tonight, the City of Winnipeg recognized the renaming of Rooster Town Park as the commemorative name for the park located at Pan Am Pool (25 Poseidon Bay). Councillor John Orlikow was joined in recognizing Rooster Town Park and unveiling an historical marker with the support of former residents of Rooster Town.
Winnipeg, MB – At 8:38 a.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in three-storey, multi-family residence in the 600 block of Stella Avenue.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack while simultaneously using a ladder to rescue several occupants from an upper-storey window. The fire was declared under control at 9:26 a.m.
Winnipeg, MB – At 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 800 block of Alfred Avenue.
When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the house. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 12:27 p.m.
Winnipeg, MB – At 11:04 a.m. on August 19, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a three-storey hotel in the 700 block of Main Street.
When crews arrived, they found smoke coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was quickly brought under control, aided by the building’s sprinkler system. Crews ensured all hotspots were extinguished, deactivated the sprinkler system and ventilated the building.
Occupants of the building safely self-evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Winnipeg, MB – The City announced today two upcoming road closures that take effect early next week.
Westbound River Road, from Settlers Road to St. Mary’s Road, will be closed to traffic for road construction on Monday, August 22 at 9 a.m. until Saturday, September 3 at 3 p.m.
Edmonton Street, from Graham Avenue to Portage Avenue, will be fully closed to accommodate the Manitoba Possible Drop Zone charity event on Tuesday, August 23 from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.
