City of Winnipeg joins Waze Connected Citizens Program

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg has entered into a data-sharing partnership with Waze (www.waze.com), the free, real-time crowdsourced traffic and navigation app powered by the world’s largest community of drivers. Through Waze, Winnipeg drivers will be able to share information with and receive the latest traffic information from the City’s soon to open Transportation Management Centre.

Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service would like share some helpful tips to help you minimize the risk of a fire in your home and make your holiday season enjoyable and safe.

Lights and Decorations

It’s always fun to deck the halls and trim the tree during the holiday season. But some lights and decorations can be dangerous if not used carefully. Here are some tips for ensuring your decorations stay decorative, not destructive:

Crews continuing to plow and salt main routes

Winnipeg, MB - In response to accumulations of snow, a truck plowing operation began last night at 11:00 p.m. and will continue until further notice. Today and tonight, City crews will continue to focus on plowing and salting main routes, bus routes and collector streets. Plowing of priority 1 sidewalks began this morning and will continue until complete.

Motorists are urged to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any snow clearing equipment.

New locations for Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service child car seat inspections

Winnipeg, MB - Starting today, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) will offer child car seat inspections at Station #27, 27 Sage Creek Boulevard, and Station #23, 880 Dalhousie Drive. To coincide with the new locations, inspections will no longer be offered at Station #14, St. Mary’s Road and Station #22, 1567 Waverley Street. The change in location is aimed at improving availability of the inspections.

Warm up at City of Winnipeg facilities

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg advising citizens to come in and warm up in civic facilities during regular operating hours as extremely cold temperatures continue.

City facilities that normally are open on weekdays and weekends are available as ‘warming areas’ where the public may come in for relief from the cold.

City facilities that can provide a comfortable place to warm-up include Winnipeg Public Libraries, swimming pools, and Leisure Centres.

Northbound direction of Arlington Street from Sargent Avenue to Wellington Avenue will be temporarily closed on Sunday, December 18

Winnipeg, MB - Starting Sunday, December 18 at 8:00 a.m., Arlington Street from Sargent Avenue to Wellington Avenue will be temporarily closed in the northbound direction until 6:00 p.m. for water service repairs.

Pedestrian access will be permitted on the west sidewalk while this work is underway.

Motorists should use alternate routes such as Maryland/Sherbrook Streets or Wall/Erin Streets.

Residential Parking Ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB - The Residential Parking Ban has been lifted. The City of Winnipeg wishes to thank all Winnipeggers for their patience and cooperation during the Residential Parking Ban.

The Annual Snow Route Parking Ban remains in effect nightly from 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. until March 1.
