Free Secondary Suites information session offered January 14, 2017

Released: December 15, 2016 at 9:11 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB. - The City of Winnipeg is pleased to offer a free public information session on Secondary Suites as part of the Planning Ed workshop series, the City’s planning education initiative.

“The information session aims to increase the general understanding of secondary suite development in Winnipeg,” says Chief Planner Braden Smith. “Also known as granny suites or in-law suites, secondary suites can create unique opportunities to provide affordable housing. They can be a great option for neighbourhoods, creating context-sensitive infill development, and can also help homeowners pay down their mortgage.”

Workshop participants will learn about attached and detached secondary suites, why the City of Winnipeg is promoting their development, and what regulations and processes are required to build secondary suites.

Refreshments will be provided and seating is limited.
