Living Prairie Museum's Prairie Plant Sales help you create habitat at home

Winnipeg, MB – The Living Prairie Museum is hosting their annual prairie plant sale with Prairie Flora. A selection of native grass and wildflower seedlings will be available for purchase to create your piece of prairie habitat at home.

Community celebrates naming of Jinnah Park

Winnipeg, MB – This evening at 5 p.m., representatives from all levels of government and the High Commissioner of Pakistan to Canada will join members of the community to celebrate the naming of Jinnah Park, in honour of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, founder of Pakistan. Muhammad Ali Jinnah led Pakistan to independence, and was its first governor-general and president of its constituent assembly.

Grass/brush fire update

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a couple grass/brush fire incidents on Thursday, May 10, including:

Mission Street
At approximately 14:57, WFPS crews responded to a grass fire in a ditch in the 800 block of Mission Street. Minor damage to a hydro pole was reported, no evacuations required, no injuries reported, and the cause is under investigation.

2018 property tax bills issued today

Winnipeg, MB – Today, approximately 231,000 property tax bills are being mailed. The deadline for paying this year's property taxes is Friday, June 29, 2018.

Grass/brush fire update

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews did not respond to any grass/brush fire incidents on Wednesday, May 9, or overnight on Thursday, May 10.

WFPS would like to remind all residents that open-air fires are temporarily prohibited due to the extreme dry weather conditions in the Winnipeg area which increases the risk of dangerous fires, such as grass, brush, and wildfires. The ban will be lifted when environmental conditions improve.

Kid Mayor of Winnipeg Appointed

Winnipeg, MB – Nazar Viznytsya has been selected by an external panel of judges as Kid Mayor of Winnipeg, Mayor Brian Bowman announced today.

“Congratulations to Nazar on being selected Kid Mayor of Winnipeg,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “I want to thank everyone who submitted an application to become Kid Mayor. As well, thank you to our external panel of judges for volunteering their time to review all eligible applications and selecting the winning submission.”
