Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service celebrates Paramedic Services Week

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is celebrating Paramedic Services Week, May 22 to 27, by participating in a variety of community and educational activities to help provide more information about the variety of paramedical services provided.

Temporary open-air fire ban lifted

Winnipeg, MB – Due to recent environmental conditions, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is lifting the temporary open-air fire ban for the city of Winnipeg. In addition, WFPS will resume issuing fireworks display permits and open fire permits. The WFPS will continue to enforce all permit conditions.

Ellice Avenue reduced to one lane in each direction from Erin Street to Arlington Street for street reconstruction

Winnipeg, MB – Ellice Avenue between Erin Street and Arlington Street will be reduced to one lane of vehicular traffic in each direction starting this Tuesday, May 22 at 9 a.m., and these lane closures will remain in place until the street reconstruction project is completed at the end of July.

Motorists should use alternate routes and allow additional travel time to get to their destinations.

Tree pest caterpillar control program commences

Winnipeg, MB – On Tuesday, May 22, 2018, weather permitting, the City of Winnipeg's Insect Control Branch will commence its tree pest caterpillar control program starting at 9:30 p.m. in Insect Management Areas 42 (Central Park, Colony, Daniel McIntyre, Portage - Ellice, Spence, West Alexander) and 45 (Burrows Central, Robertson). The program will be targeting the forest tent caterpillar, elm spanworm, and the spring and fall cankerworm species.

City of Winnipeg spray pads to open for May long weekend

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is inviting residents to enjoy community spray pads as some will open earlier than expected, on the May long weekend, Saturday, May 19.

“Summer fun has come early this year,” said Mike Pagtakhan, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks. “Winnipeg is fortunate to have 18 spray pad locations throughout the city, offering enjoyment to each community. I hope people of all ages will take pleasure in these family-friendly amenities in the coming summer months.”

Public invited to provide input on the redevelopment of Finestone Park

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeggers are invited to attend a public workshop on May 31 to provide feedback on redeveloping Finestone Park.

The Finestone Park play structure was removed in 2003, after it reached the end of its serviceable life. The City plans to redevelop Finestone Park and is asking for feedback to find out what the neighbourhood would like in the park to better serve park users and the surrounding community.

Median lane on northbound Kenaston Boulevard closed between Carpathia Road and Willow Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – The median lane on northbound Kenaston Boulevard is closed to vehicular traffic between Carpathia Road and Willow Avenue due to a collapsed manhole. Motorists must use the curb lane while repairs are underway.

Crews are on site securing the area and expect to begin repairs Monday evening. Crews expect to complete repairs and reopen the median lane on northbound Kenaston Boulevard by Wednesday, May 16.

Motorists should allow additional travel time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes.
