City of Winnipeg invites residents to come in and cool off during forecasted high heat

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg invites residents to come in and cool off in civic facilities during regular operating hours, as high temperatures are forecasted over the next few days.

City facilities that are normally open on weekdays and weekends are available to act as 'cooling areas' where the public may come in for relief from the heat and have access to drinking water.

City pools and spray pads are also great ways to cool down.

Mayor and Community Organizations Partner to Address and Reduce Unsafe Panhandling

Winnipeg, MB – Today, along with representatives of key community organizations, Mayor Brian Bowman provided an update on efforts to address and reduce the occurrence of unsafe panhandling along with short-term actions and long-term goals. Unsafe Panhandling is defined as panhandling that is occurring along boulevards and amongst traffic.

Goldeyes players visit City of Winnipeg libraries

Winnipeg, MB – Players from the Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club are teaming up with Winnipeg Public Library to support children’s literacy and the TD Summer Reading Club.

Players will be visiting the following library branches on Tuesday, August 7 at 1:30 p.m. to read stories, meet fans, answer questions and sign autographs:

Citizens encouraged to get involved on Boards and Commissions

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is accepting applications for positions on various Boards and Commissions until October 19, 2018.

The City Clerk’s Department initiates an annual selection process to fill citizen member positions to Boards and Commissions on which there are imminent or existing vacancies.

Applications are now being accepted to fill vacancies on the following boards:

Northbound lanes on McPhillips Street between Redwood Avenue and College Avenue temporarily closed for repairs

Winnipeg, MB – The northbound lanes on McPhillips Street between Redwood Avenue and College Avenue are temporarily closed while crews complete repairs related to a recent water main break. Northbound traffic will be diverted to one southbound lane beginning at 8 p.m. tonight to ensure traffic can flow in both directions on McPhillips Street until the repairs are completed.

Motorists should use alternate routes and allow additional travel time to get to their destinations.
