Northbound McPhillips Street between Logan Avenue and Jarvis Avenue to temporarily close for underpass project

Released: July 31, 2018 at 3:30 p.m.
One southbound lane and sidewalk to remain open; motorists are advised to begin planning their alternative routes in anticipation of the upcoming lane closure

Winnipeg, MB – To facilitate ongoing construction on the McPhillips Street Underpass, McPhillips Street between Logan Avenue and Jarvis Avenue will be converted to single-lane operation, operating one-way (southbound only) at all times as of Friday, August 3 at 6 p.m. This will be in effect for several weeks.

During excavation of the roadway through the underpass, buried elements of the bridge structure were uncovered and found to be in very poor condition requiring immediate repair. Through consultation with Canadian Pacific Railway (the bridge owner), it was determined that closure of northbound traffic is necessary to allow the railway to complete these unexpected repairs.

Motorists are advised to start planning ahead to use alternate routes in the coming weeks, such as Route 90, Keewatin Street, or the Slaw Rebchuk Bridge.

Arlington Bridge has limited capacity and is not recommended as an alternate route and truck operators are reminded that the Arlington Bridge is not a truck route.

Northbound cyclists at the McPhillips Street Underpass are advised to dismount and walk their bike on the sidewalk or to use an alternate route.
