City Libraries kick-off TD Summer Reading Club

Winnipeg, MB – Registration for the annual TD Summer Reading Club begins today at all City of Winnipeg Library branches. Children up to age 12 are invited to visit any library branch to register and pick up a free reading kit that includes activities and a calendar to track reading time.

City joins iCemetery app to improve access to burial records

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is now participating in the iCemetery app, a mobile app utilized by municipalities across Canada, which provides members of the public with an easy-to-use search tool for burial records at cemeteries. Transcona Cemetery is the first City of Winnipeg municipal cemetery available on the iCemetery app. St. Vital Cemetery data will be available in late summer 2018, with data for the Brookside Cemetery scheduled to be input at a later date.

Chief Peguis Greenway Extension Project from Frog Plain Way to Henderson Highway Breaks Ground

Winnipeg, MB – Committed to a future of providing transportation improvements and a connected network of pedestrian and cycling facilities in Winnipeg, City Councillors Devi Sharma, Old Kildonan Ward, and Jeff Browaty, North Kildonan Ward in partnership with the Government of Canada, celebrated the official ground breaking of the Chief Peguis Greenway Extension Project which will expand the multi-use pathway network and improve transportation options in Winnipeg for people of all ages and abilities.

City recruits Agents of S.W.A.T. from local Elementary School with launch of 2nd edition educational, action oriented comic book

Winnipeg, MB – Today the City of Winnipeg's Insect Control Branch attended Lavallee Elementary School to deliver an educational presentation about insects and to invite students and their parents to join the fight against mosquitoes this season as honorary Agents of S.W.A.T. (Standing Water Action Team). Students were presented with Winnipeg’s second edition of an action oriented educational comic book that examines the mosquito’s life cycle, and explains what action is required if you want to become an agent of S.W.A.T. and reduce mosquitoes in your neighborhood.

Public invited to provide input for Route 90 Improvements Study

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is inviting the public to view the functional design and provide further input on the widening of Route 90 between Taylor Avenue and Ness Avenue. The route needs to be upgraded to address current and future traffic volumes, to accommodate new and future redevelopment, and to meet the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, and transit users.
