City of Winnipeg and Shaw reach agreement to provide free Wi-Fi access at City facilities

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg and Shaw Communications Inc. have reached an agreement that allows public guest access to Shaw's Wi-Fi services in more than 130 civic facilities.

“Whether it’s for work, play, or just staying in touch, feeling connected is an important part of our everyday lives,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “Access to Wi-Fi is an important resource for residents no matter where they are in our city. With the support of Shaw, we can now offer free Wi-Fi at nearly all of our community centres, indoor pools, arenas, and libraries.”

Fifteen firefighter recruits graduate from Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service's 10-week orientation and training period

Winnipeg, MB – At a graduation ceremony this afternoon, Mayor Bowman was joined by Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) Chief John Lane to formally present badges to the City's 15 new firefighters.

“Congratulations to all graduates of the WFPS Recruit Class #1802,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “It takes a special kind of person to dedicate themselves to a career like this, and we are very grateful for the commitment each of you have made to serving and protecting the residents of Winnipeg.”

New tennis courts and soccer pitch in Thelma J. Call Park causing quite the racquet in Waverley Heights

Winnipeg, MB – Committed to improving park amenities in Winnipeg, City Councillor Janice Lukes, South Winnipeg – St. Norbert Ward, and Terry Duguid, Member of Parliament for Winnipeg South, celebrated the official opening of two newly rebuilt tennis courts and a renovated soccer pitch in Thelma J. Call Park, adjacent to R.H.G. Bonnycastle School located in Waverley Heights at 1100 Chancellor Drive. The improvements occurred during the 2016 and 2017 construction seasons.

Largest road construction season in Winnipeg history kicks-off

Winnipeg, MB – With over 200 construction projects planned city-wide, Winnipeg's on track for a record year of road construction during the 2018 construction season. The City of Winnipeg’s 2018 budget includes a record $116 million investment for improvements to local and regional streets, back lanes, and sidewalks. In total, approximately 150 lane kilometers of improvements are scheduled this year. In addition, other major infrastructure projects such as Southwest Rapid Transitway, and the Waverley Underpass project are moving forward.

Thursday Theme Days at the Living Prairie Museum in July and August

Winnipeg, MB – Register for a family Theme Day activity at the Living Prairie Museum. Free, family Theme Days take place on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., starting on July 5 until August 23.

Activities include a presentation on a prairie topic followed by an activity. Our one-hour programs are best suited for ages 5 – 11. Please dress for the conditions!

Winnipeg's Indigenous Accord Welcomes Additional Partners

Winnipeg, MB – Today, over 40 additional local organizations, businesses, groups, and individuals joined the City in their commitment to the ongoing Journey of Reconciliation in Winnipeg by formally becoming partners of Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord at the second annual signing ceremony, bringing the total number of Accord partners to over 120 and demonstrating a strong community commitment to Winnipeg’s Journey of Reconciliation.
