Nomination Period for 2018 City of Winnipeg Municipal and School Boards Election begins today

Winnipeg, MB – The Senior Election Official for the City of Winnipeg will be accepting nomination papers for the offices of Mayor, Councillor and School Trustee, beginning today, Wednesday, September 12, 2018, and ending at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18, 2018.

Nomination papers must be submitted to the Senior Election Official at the City Clerk's Department, Susan A. Thompson Building, 510 Main Street, Winnipeg, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., including Saturday and Sunday.

All candidates must provide valid identification showing proof of name and current address in order to be nominated.

Nomination Papers must be filed by the Candidate in-person, on the prescribed form and have the required number of valid signatures, as follows:

  • Mayoralty Candidates must have a minimum of 250 signatures from voters whose names appear on the Voters List.
  • Councillor Candidates must have a minimum of 25 signatures from voters whose names appear on the Voters List for the council ward in which they are seeking election.
  • School Trustee Candidates must have a minimum of 25 signatures from voters whose names appear on the Voters List for the school division ward in which they are seeking election.

The deadline to file is 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2018.

Deadline for Withdrawal
Candidates may withdraw their nomination, in writing, until 4:30 p.m., Wednesday,
September 19, 2018.

Order of Names on the Ballot
At 6:00 p.m. on September 19, a random draw to determine the order of the candidates' names on the ballot will take place in the Susan A. Thompson Building, 510 Main Street.
