Winnipeg Public Library announces 2018-19 writer-in-residence

Released: September 25, 2018 at 1:15 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Public Library has selected Jordan Wheeler as the 2018-2019 writer-in-residence. Wheeler will be available for consultations starting October 1, 2018.

Wheeler is a Gemini Award-winning scriptwriter and story editor from the George Gordon First Nation. He has been writing professionally since 1982 and working in film and television since 1984. Wheeler’s creative credits include the books Digital Ogichida, Brothers in Arms and Just a Walk and the TV series Arctic Air, renegadepress.com and North of 60. He also teaches writing, scriptwriting and story editing.

“It’s my belief that every individual has an artistic side and for those who have gone down the writing path, they all have a unique voice and unique stories to tell. Often it’s simply a matter of drawing them out and asking the questions they may not have thought of themselves,” said Wheeler. “I’m excited for the opportunity to engage with Winnipeg writers and draw out their stories.”

The writer-in-residence provides free online and in-person consultation with emerging and established Manitoba writers of all genres from an office located at the Millennium Library, 251 Donald St. Manuscripts for review can be submitted by email or by mail. Visit Winnipeg Public Library – Writer-in-Residence for complete submission guidelines.

The Writer-in-Residence position is funded by the City of Winnipeg, the Winnipeg Public Library Board, the Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library and Manitoba Sport, Culture and Heritage.

Wheeler’s term as writer-in-residence at the Winnipeg Public Library runs until April 30, 2019.
