Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Wordsworth Way Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 10:05 p.m. on April 27, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a single family bungalow in the 0-100 block of Wordsworth Way. Upon arrival on scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 11:02 p.m. The home suffered significant smoke, fire and water damage.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Boyd Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:01 a.m. on April 27, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 300 block of Boyd Avenue. Upon arrival on scene crews encountered heavy smoke and flames and launched a defensive attack. Once conditions improved they transitioned to an offensive attack, however were forced back to defensive as the integrity of the structure had been compromised. The fire was declared under control at 5:56 a.m. The house suffered significant smoke, fire and water damage.

Insect Control Update #1

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg has started this year's insect control season using an aggressive, environmentally friendly mosquito larviciding program. Larviciding is the most effective approach to control mosquitoes, as it targets mosquito larvae in the aquatic stage before they emerge as adults.

“The rise in spring temperatures has triggered a hatch of the spring species of mosquitoes in the water. If weather conditions continue to remain normal, a routine spring larviciding program is anticipated,” said Ken Nawolsky, Superintendent of Insect Control.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Ste. Therese Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:08 a.m. on April 26, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of fire at a high school in the 800 block of Ste. Therese Avenue. Upon arrival on scene crews found a small fire in the ceiling-area of the gymnasium. It was quickly extinguished and crews very quickly ventilated the smoke from the building.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: St. Mary's Road Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:14 p.m. on April 25, 2019, an off-duty firefighter reported smoke coming from a condominium complex in the 1900 block of St. Mary's Road. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded and found that a small outdoor fire in a landscaped area had extended to the siding of the building. Siding was removed and the fire was extinguished.

No evacuations were necessary and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.

City's elected officials and employees to observe 2019 National Day of Mourning

Winnipeg, MB – City of Winnipeg elected officials and employees will join thousands of other Canadians in observing Canada’s National Day of Mourning which is held each year on April 28. The National Day of Mourning is held to commemorate workers who have been injured or killed in the workplace as well as workers who have become ill as a result of their work. It is also a day to commit each and every one of us to eliminate workplace illness and injury.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Chesterfield Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a small fire in a townhome suite in the 0 to 100 block of Chesterfield Avenue. Upon arrival on scene crews discovered the fire had been mostly extinguished.

One individual was in the suite at the time of the fire. Paramedic crews treated the individual on scene and then transported them to hospital in unstable condition.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Horace Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:23 a.m. on April 22, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a monitored fire alarm notification and 911 call reporting a fire in a two storey, single-family home in the 100 block of Horace Street. Reports indicated that one individual was trapped in the home.

Once on scene crews used a ladder to enter the home and located one individual deceased. The other occupant of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews.
