Winnipeg, MB – City of Winnipeg elected officials and employees will join thousands of other Canadians in observing Canada’s National Day of Mourning which is held each year on April 28. The National Day of Mourning is held to commemorate workers who have been injured or killed in the workplace as well as workers who have become ill as a result of their work. It is also a day to commit each and every one of us to eliminate workplace illness and injury.
“The National Day of Mourning is a somber day to reflect on the unfortunate injuries and deaths that occur while on the job around the world each year,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “It is also an important day that helps create awareness and education for workers’ health and safety. I encourage businesses and organizations in Winnipeg to have discussions about measures that can be taken to ensure we are putting as much effort as we can toward prevention.”
To help mark National Day of Mourning, the City will hold a ceremony on Friday, April 26. Members of the public are invited to attend.
Date: | Friday, April 26, 2019 |
Location: | City Hall Court Yard, 510 Main St.* |
