Winnipeg, MB – At 11:23 a.m. on April 22, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a monitored fire alarm notification and 911 call reporting a fire in a two storey, single-family home in the 100 block of Horace Street. Reports indicated that one individual was trapped in the home.
Once on scene crews used a ladder to enter the home and located one individual deceased. The other occupant of the home self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews.
The fire was declared under control at 11:47 a.m. While the cause of the fire is under investigation, preliminary observations suggest it is not considered suspicious. No damage estimates are available at this time.
Hoskin Avenue Fire
At 11:50 a.m. on April 22, 2019, (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a single-family bungalow in the 600 block of Hoskin Avenue. Once on scene crews encountered heavy smoke and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 12:07 p.m. The house suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.
All occupants of the home safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.

Residents are reminded that any time they are bystanders at an emergency scene they should always stay well back to allow first responders room to do their work. Responders are often working in unsafe conditions and shouldn’t have to take the time to remind residents to stay back.
