Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Gagnon Street fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:52 p.m. on August 10, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a three storey apartment complex in the 500 block of Gagnon Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews found fire in a third floor suite. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was brought under control by 1:05 p.m. with damage contained to the suite of origin.

One patient was treated by paramedics on scene and then transported to hospital. No other injuries were reported. Most occupants were able to return to their suites.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services hosts Equity and Diversity Camp

Winnipeg, MB - The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) training academy welcomed 12 newcomer youth this week as part of their Equity and Diversity Camp. The week-long camp is designed to provide newcomer youth with exposure to a variety of scenarios that firefighters, paramedics, and WFPS 911 communication operators encounter on a daily basis. Youth also participate in career training workshops such as interview preparation.

City of Winnipeg Fall/Winter Leisure Guide now available

Winnipeg, MB - The combined Fall 2019/Winter 2020 Leisure Guide is now available online at winnipeg.ca at all civic indoor pools, libraries, and leisure centres, and will be available Saturday at a number of retail locations. Winnipeg Free Press subscribers will receive a copy in today’s edition of the paper.

In addition to the Leisure Guide, the City’s Fall 2019 Leisure Guide Skating brochure and the Fall 2019 Leisure Guide Swimming brochure are also available online at winnipeg.ca.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Henry Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At 8:18 a.m. on August 8, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to an automatic alarm at the Emterra Environmental facility in the 1000 block of Henry Avenue. Once on scene, crews found heavy smoke coming from a rubbish fire in one of the structures which was making its way to another structure through an elevated conveyor belt. An offensive attack was launched with crews working to protect the spread of fire to the second building. The fire was declared under control at 9:12 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Beverley Street & Spence Street fires

Winnipeg, MB - At 8:37 p.m. on August 5, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant bungalow in the 600 block of Beverley Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the structure and launched an offensive attack. At 8:55 p.m. the fire was declared under control.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Atlantic Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB - At approximately 2:30 p.m., Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews responded to reports of a house fire in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue.

Once on scene, crews declared a working fire in a two-storey residential dwelling. The fire was extinguished with an offensive interior attack.

One occupant self-evacuated the structure, and no injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation, and no damage estimates are available at this time.

Goldeyes players to visit City of Winnipeg libraries

Winnipeg, MB - Players from the Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Club are teaming up with Winnipeg Public Library to support children's literacy and the TD Summer Reading Club.

The Goldeyes players will be visiting library branches to read stories, meet fans, answer questions and sign autographs. Goldeyes player visits will take place on Tuesday, August 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the following branches:
