Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Responds to Winnipeg Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 3:40 p.m. on September 10, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a one and a half storey single family home in the 800 block of Winnipeg Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke and flames and launched an offensive attack. The fire was quickly declared under control at 4:02 p.m.

Occupants of the house had self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Eastbound and westbound Bishop Grandin Boulevard between Lakewood Boulevard and Shorehill Drive closed September 13 to 15

Winnipeg, MB – Bishop Grandin Boulevard between Lakewood Boulevard and Shorehill Drive will be completely closed to eastbound and westbound traffic starting at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 13 for a railway crossing reconstruction. Bishop Grandin Boulevard will reopen at 11 p.m. on Sunday, September 15.

Motorists should allow additional travel time to get to their destinations, and use alternate routes such as the Perimeter Highway or Fermor Avenue.

Residents invited to provide input on where and how infill housing should be accommodated in mature communities

Winnipeg, MB – Building on the priorities identified in the Residential Infill Strategy's Implementation Action Plan, the City of Winnipeg is seeking public input on residential infill design guidelines and intensification criteria to help ensure that new development in Mature Communities is compatible in form, scale, and design, and to help determine when and where density changes should occur on residential streets.

Public invited to provide input on the redevelopment of two parks in the Brooklands neighbourhood

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeggers are invited to attend a public workshop on Wednesday, October 2 to provide feedback on redeveloping two parks in the Brooklands neighbourhood: Blue Bird Park and Lismore Park.

Blue Bird Park was last redeveloped in 1999, therefore the park is due for an update. With the open greenspace at Lismore Park right beside it, this is a good time to think of the two greenspaces together and come up with ideas for what is needed in the community and the best way to address it in the available park spaces.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Responds to William Avenue Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:13 p.m. on September 9, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two and a half storey rooming house in the 400 block of William Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy fire conditions involving the upper two floors of the structure. An offensive attack was quickly launched but deteriorating conditions forced crews to exit the building and fight the fire defensively.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Agnes Street Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:21 a.m. on September 9, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in the rear of the 500 block of Agnes Street and McGee Street. Once on scene, crews encountered a well-involved fire in a garage immediately behind a vacant home on McGee Street. Crews immediately launched an attack while protecting neighbouring homes with additional water streams. The fire was declared under control at 8:46 a.m.

Living Prairie Museum seeking volunteers to help collect native prairie seeds

Winnipeg, MB – The Living Prairie Museum is seeking volunteers to help collect native seeds in some of Winnipeg’s prairie habitats.

Volunteers will learn about the museum’s efforts to conserve the genetic diversity of prairie landscapes, as well as sustainable harvesting practices. Volunteers will also be able to keep some of the seeds they collect.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: Uxbridge Road South Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:41 a.m. on September 9, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey home in the 0 to 100 block of Uxbridge Road South. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered a well-involved fire with heavy flames and smoke coming from the attached garage. Initially, a defensive strategy was launched due to the heavy fire conditions. Once some of the flames were knocked down, crews were able to transition to an interior, offensive attack to complete extinguishment of the fire.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: McGillivray Boulevard fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:26 a.m. on September 8, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a restaurant in the 2000 block of McGillivray Boulevard.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered fire in a chimney. An attack was launched with crews on the roof and inside the structure. The fire was declared under control at 3:29 a.m. While damage from the flames was contained to the chimney, the restaurant suffered significant smoke and water damage.
