Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Update: McGillivray Boulevard fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:26 a.m. on September 8, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a restaurant in the 2000 block of McGillivray Boulevard.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered fire in a chimney. An attack was launched with crews on the roof and inside the structure. The fire was declared under control at 3:29 a.m. While damage from the flames was contained to the chimney, the restaurant suffered significant smoke and water damage.

There were no patrons in the restaurant at the time of the fire. All employees had safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

The fire was determined to have started in the chimney and was deemed accidental by the WFPS Fire Investigator. No damage estimates are available at this time.
