Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Responds to Three Overnight Fires

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:15 p.m. on September 20, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey house in the 400 block of William Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered flames and heavy smoke. Crews launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 9:53 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Responds to Fire on Stephens Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:35 p.m. on September 20, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a vacant one-and-a-half storey house in the 100 block of Stephens Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke conditions and launched an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 5:04 p.m.

Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Responds to Fire on Rougeau Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 11:58 a.m. on September 20, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey townhouse complex in the 0-100 block of Rougeau Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke and launched an offensive attack from the interior of the unit and from outside using ground ladders. Crews on the outside of the structure had to briefly halt operations due to lightning and storm conditions which made it unsafe for them to be on the roof and ladders. The fire was declared under control at 12:20 p.m.

Morning thunderstorm requires significant City response

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg experienced a high level of calls for service in response to the effects of a thunderstorm earlier today.

The City’s 311 services experienced delays in the late morning as it fielded over 250 inquiries in just over an hour related to flooded catch basins, as well as sewer and drainage issues.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Responds to Fire on Red Spruce Road

Winnipeg, MB – At 9:41 a.m. on September 20, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, single family residence in the 0-100 block of Red Spruce Road. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered fire on the roof of the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was quickly brought under control at 10:27 a.m. The home suffered significant damage to the roof and attic.

One occupant in the home at the time of the fire safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported.

Northbound Stadacona Street closed this weekend between Midwinter Avenue and Talbot Avenue for intersection paving operations

Winnipeg, MB – Northbound Stadacona Street between Midwinter Avenue and Talbot Avenue will be closed this weekend starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 21 until 10 p.m. Sunday, September 22 for milling and repaving of Talbot Avenue through the Talbot/Stadacona intersection.

Motorists should expect delays, and should use Brazier Street as an alternate route.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Elgin Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:29 a.m. on September 18, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, single-family dwelling in the 600 block of Elgin Avenue. Upon arrival, crews encountered smoke coming from the house. Crews launched an offensive interior attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:49 a.m.

All occupants of the house safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service Responds to Gallagher Avenue West Fire

Winnipeg, MB – At 2:59 a.m. on September 17, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a garage fire in the 1-100 block of Gallagher Avenue West. Upon arrival crews encountered a well-involved fire which was threatening two neighbouring homes. The homes were evacuated and crews quickly launched an attack, declaring the fire under control at 3:36 a.m.

All eight occupants of the homes were assessed on scene by paramedics but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.
