Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to a number of reports of vehicles submerged on streets flooded as a result of the storm. The 911 calls indicated many of the vehicles had individuals trapped inside who required assistance. Crews attended to all the reported locations and in total extricated six individuals.
WFPS also responded to a house fire in the Bridgwater area believed to have been caused by lightning. The occupant in the home at the time of the fire safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival and no injuries were reported.
With another thunderstorm forecast for this evening, residents are reminded to take precautions including checking your home’s backwater valve and sump pump, and ensuring your eaves troughs and drain spouts are clear. Residents should also drive with caution and avoid flooded roads, particularly as water becomes less visible in the darkness.
