City prepared to deal with forecasted precipitation

Winnipeg, MB – As a result of the high volume of precipitation that has fallen in the region over the past few weeks and with more precipitation in the form of rain or snow predicted over the next few days, the City of Winnipeg reminds residents to take necessary precautions to protect their homes and property against flooding.

City Releases 2019 Financial Status Report and Forecast to August 31, 2019

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg's updated Financial Status Report and Forecast is showing a projected deficit in the tax-supported operating budget (General Revenue Fund) of $6.9 million, as at August 31, 2019. The City’s latest financial update will be presented at the meeting of the Standing Policy Committee on Finance on October 11, 2019.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service invites residents to participate in Fire Prevention Week, October 6 to 12

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) invites all residents to mark Fire Prevention Week, October 6 to 12, by practicing fire escape plans at home, school, and at work. This year’s theme is “Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice your Escape.” Emergency situations can arise and change quickly; it’s important to create a plan before you need one and to practice it often.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to a house fire on William Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:08 p.m. on October 6, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a monitored smoke alarm in a house in the 600 block of William Avenue.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the house. Crews forced entry, launched an offensive attack, and declared the fire under control at 6:41 p.m.

There were no evacuations required and no injuries reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimate is available at this time.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Prevette Street

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:53 p.m. on October 4, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a four-storey apartment complex in the 0-100 block of Prevette Street. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from a fourth-storey window and launched an offensive attack. The fire was very quickly knocked down and then firefighters worked to ventilate the building. Damage was contained to the suite where the fire originated.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Lake Crest Road

Winnipeg, MB – At 1:11 p.m. on October 3, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey apartment complex in the 0-100 block of Lake Crest Road. Upon arrival on scene, crews launched an offensive attack, quickly bringing the fire under control. While the suite of origin suffered some fire damage and significant smoke damage, the damage did not extend to any other suites in the complex.

Occupants of the suite where the fire originated self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to house fire on Jessie Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:25 p.m. on October 2, 2019, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half storey home in the 600 block of Jessie Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the home.

Crews launched an interior offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 8:52 p.m. The home sustained damage to the basement.

Two occupants safely self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. No injuries were reported. No damage estimates are available at this time.

City asks residents for assistance in locating suitable Christmas tree for City Hall

Winnipeg, MB – The City is searching for a large spruce tree for this year's City Hall Christmas tree display and is asking Winnipeg homeowners to contact us if they are interested in donating their tree.

The City received information about a number of potential Christmas tree candidates for this year's holiday display, but none have met the criteria.
