Downtown streets closed to traffic for overnight film production next week

Winnipeg, MB – Three stretches of downtown streets will be closed to traffic at separate times next week to accommodate an overnight film production, scheduled over the course of Monday, October 21 to Friday, October 25.

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg is making it easier for residents to deposit their downed trees and fallen branches by temporarily extending hours of operation at its 4R Winnipeg Depots. In addition, the Summit Road Landfill, accessible via Sturgeon Road, will be open to residents and commercial haulers for storm-related wood waste only.

City Council to vote on ratification of negotiated agreement with ATU 1505

Winnipeg, MB – The Executive Policy Committee will hold a special meeting in order to vote on the ratification of the negotiated agreement between the City of Winnipeg and the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 1505 (ATU).

“I am pleased that once again, we have been able to reach a negotiated agreement that is fair and reasonable for taxpayers and our valued employees,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “I want to thank the negotiating parties for ATU and the City of Winnipeg for their efforts to reach an agreement.”

Winnipeg, MB – Crews continue to clear and remove downed trees and fallen branches city-wide, aided by contractors and crews from other Canadian municipalities. Crews from the City of Regina arrived yesterday, while crews from the City of Saskatoon are anticipated to arrive today.

Residents are reminded to be mindful of crews working on roadways. If a tree is blocking a roadway, or if crews are on a roadway working, please refrain from driving through the site and do not drive around them on medians or boulevards.

Sterling Lyon Parkway between Kenaston Boulevard and Whidden Gate temporarily closed on October 19 and 20

Winnipeg, MB – Sterling Lyon Parkway between Kenaston Boulevard and Whidden Gate will be completely closed to eastbound and westbound traffic starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 19 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 20 for railway crossing repairs.

Motorists should allow additional travel time to get to their destinations and use alternate routes such as Wilkes Avenue or McGillivray Boulevard.

The City is employing contractors to assist in the efforts. It’s anticipated that the clean-up effort will take a number of weeks or more.

The City has reached out to other municipalities throughout the country for assistance and resources to help in cleanup efforts.

Winnipeg, MB – Crews continue to clear and remove downed trees and fallen branches city-wide, focusing efforts on priority locations where branches or trees are blocking streets. The City is employing contractors to assist in the efforts. It’s anticipated that the clean-up effort will take a number of weeks or more.

It’s estimated that approximately 30,000 City-owned trees were impacted by the recent snowstorm. While all areas of the city were impacted, core areas and mature neighbourhoods have a higher risk level due to the size of the trees.

Mayor Bowman Declares State of Local Emergency for City Of Winnipeg

Winnipeg, MB – Today, Mayor Bowman declared a state of local emergency for the City of Winnipeg. Along with its existing powers, the City will be able to use the authority granted under the state of local emergency to gain access to private property in order to deal with public trees that have fallen onto private property, and private trees that have fallen onto public property. In addition, the state of local emergency will allow the City to acquire the additional resources required to deal with this unprecedented weather event.
