2020 School Trustee By-Election officially cancelled

Winnipeg, MB – In accordance with section 119(3) of the Municipal Councils and School Boards Elections Act, the Senior Election Official has declared the results of the School Trustee By-Election for Winnipeg School Division Wards 3 and 4 to be invalid.

Under the Municipal Councils and School Boards Elections Act, suspended polls must be re-opened within seven days of Election day or the results become invalid.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Pembina Highway

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:09 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a 9-storey apartment building in the 3000 block of Pembina Highway. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with a high-rise structure.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the building. WFPS crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:35 p.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Dalhousie Drive

Winnipeg, MB – At 6:31 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in an apartment building in the 0-100 block of Dalhousie Drive.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews rescued two individuals from the building. One patient was transported to hospital in critical condition.

Mayor Bowman Announces COVID-19 Business Task Force

Winnipeg, MB – Today, Mayor Brian Bowman announced the establishment of the Mayor’s COVID-19 Business Task Force to consider the COVID-19 related impacts being felt by our business community.

“As we continue to navigate increasingly unprecedented times, the effects of COVID-19 are placing extreme challenges on our local business community,” said Mayor Bowman. “I’m very concerned with the effect this is having on our businesses and that’s why I’ve created the Mayor’s COVID-19 Business Task Force.”

Winnipeg, MB – At 8:44 a.m. on March 24, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in an apartment complex in the 400 block of Furby Street. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with an apartment complex. Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control 9:12 a.m.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Sutherland Avenue

Winnipeg, MB – At 4:28 p.m. on March 22, 2020, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a multi-family residence the 100 block of Sutherland Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. Crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 4:44 p.m. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damages appear to be contained to the suite involved.

City continues to reduce non-essential services

Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg remains committed to maintaining essential services while balancing the health, safety, and well-being of our employees and residents.

Everyone has a role to play in slowing COVID-19’s spread and minimizing its impact in our community, which is why the City is suspending additional non-essential in home appointments, and is further reducing non-essential services.
