Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Pembina Highway

Released: March 27, 2020 at 5:30 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At 12:09 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 2020, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a 9-storey apartment building in the 3000 block of Pembina Highway. A second alarm was called, increasing the number of apparatus and WFPS crew members on the scene, due to the potential for high life hazards when dealing with a high-rise structure.

Upon arrival on scene, crews encountered smoke coming from the building. WFPS crews launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 12:35 p.m.

Most damage was contained to the suite where the fire originated; however, other parts of the building sustained minor smoke damage.

Most occupants have been allowed to return to their suites at this time. The remaining occupants are expected to be able to return to their suites once crews complete their work. Paramedics assessed one patient on scene. No patients were transported to hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
