Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg remains committed to maintaining essential services while balancing the health, safety, and well-being of our employees and residents.
Everyone has a role to play in slowing COVID-19’s spread and minimizing its impact in our community, which is why the City is suspending additional non-essential in home appointments, and is further reducing non-essential services.
In addition, several front-line service counters will be closed, effective at the end of the business day on Friday, March 20. The City’s front counters located on the main floor of the Susan A. Thompson Building at 510 Main St., and the Bilingual Service Centre, located at 170 Goulet St., will remain open at this time.
The following is a summary of the affected City programs and services:
Animal Services
Effective at the end of the business day on Friday, March 20, Animal Services will be closed to members of the public. Animal Services will continue to reunite lost dogs with their owners and will continue to have dogs available for adoption; however, an appointment must be made in advance by contacting 311. Staff will continue to respond to emergency and stray animal calls only – residents can report emergencies or stray animals by contacting 311.
Assessment & Taxation
Effective at the end of the business day on Friday, March 20, Assessment & Taxation’s front counter will be closed to members of the public.
City Clerk’s
Residents are advised that services offered by the City Clerk’s Department, located on the main floor of the Susan A. Thompson Building at 510 Main St., will be limited to the following:
- Providing proof of life for pensioners
- Receipt of legal services against the City of Winnipeg
- Receipt and processing of Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) requests
- Receipt and processing of appeals/other time-sensitive documents
Residents are no longer able to obtain wedding licenses from the City Clerk’s Department at 510 Main St. until further notice, effective at the end of the business day on Friday, March 20.
Community Services
Effective at the end of the business day on Friday, March 20, the Community Services Department’s front counters located at 395 Main St. are closed to the public until further notice.
Planning, Property & Development
Effective at the end of the business day on Friday, March 20, all interior occupied residential inspections are being suspended until further notice. Those with outstanding appointments will be contacted directly to reschedule.
Planning, Property & Development will continue with commercial and new build residential (unoccupied) inspections.
Public Works
While City parks remain open, parks bookings for over 50 people are being cancelled and no new parks bookings are being accepted until further notice.
Winnipeg Parking Authority
Effective at the end of the business day on Friday, March 20, The Parking Store, located at 495 Portage Ave., will be closed to members of the public.
Winnipeg Transit
Effective at the end of the business day on Friday, March 20, Winnipeg Transit’s customer service kiosks will be closed at the following locations:
- Portage & Main Concourse
- Millennium Library, located at 251 Donald St.
- Transit Business Centre, located at 421 Osborne St.
The Customer Service Centre located at 414 Osborne St. will remain open. Customers can renew and load their peggo cards by visiting one of our partner agencies, online or by contacting 311.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service
Public access to Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Stations is temporarily restricted to emergencies only.
Online resources
Residents are reminded that they can make payments for certain city services online or through 311.
